WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?

Chemical peel is a procedure used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck, hands & feet. A chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. The new, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. The new skin is also temporarily more sensitive to the sun. Light-haired and fair-skinned people are the best candidates for a chemical peel.

CHEMICAL PEELS ARE USED TO TREAT:

  • Acne scars
  • Aging skin
  • Crow’s feet
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Scars
  • Sun damaged skin
  • Sagging skin
  • Wrinkles

CONTRAINDICATIONS

  • Skin cancer
  • Infections
  • Active skin disease
  • Cut or broken skin
  • Sunburns
  • Nursing or pregnant women
  • Taken Accutane in last six months
  • Psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis or rosacea
  • Used Retin-A, Renova, prescription skin care products, products that contain ascorbic acid, bleaching or skin-lightening agents or other acid-based products in the last 48 hours

ARE CHEMICAL PEELS PAINFUL?

Chemicals peels sting but do not cause a great deal of pain. They may cause stinging, redness, irritation and crusting but as the skin begins to adjust all these problems will lessen and use of creams and gels will reduce these effects. Also, the skin care specialist may prescribe products that will help relieve the problems after the peel.

BEFORE TREATMENT:

We advise to avoid the following for 24 – 36 hours before the treatment:

  • Sun bathing (We do not treat sun burn)
  • Tanning
  • Waxing
  • Threading
  • Shaving
  • Make-Up

PROCEDURE:

  • Careful discussions regarding your concerns about your skin.
  • A medical history will also be taken to make sure that there are no reasons why you shouldn’t undertake treatment.
  • Treatment will start with a cleanse and skin analysis then peel will be applied.
  • During the treatment, you will feel stinging that will reduce soon.
  • Once treatment is completed a soothing moisturizer or broad-spectrum SPF will be applied to your skin.

RECOVERY OR DOWNTIME?

Require one to seven days to heal. Treated skin will initially be red and may scale. Prescribed products should be applied until the skin heals, followed by daily use of sunscreen. Makeup can usually be worn the next day.

Avoid sun exposure, rubbing or scratching until healing is complete.

A follow-up appointment will be necessary to monitor progress.

POST TREATMENT

We advise to avoid the following for 24 – 36 hours:

  • Sun exposure
  • Tanning
  • Waxing
  • Threading
  • Shaving

We strongly instruct you to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF 30 (minimum) or higher to prevent photo damage and uphold the results of your treatment.

GLYCOLIC PEEL

  • Overall Rejuvenation
  • Decreases visibility of fine lines
  • Promotes cellular turnover
  • May reduce occurrences of hormonal acne
  • Good for all skin types
G PEEL

Glycolic Acid, also known as Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), is a chemical exfoliant originally sourced from sugarcane and used for beautification by ancient civilizations. Modern Glycolic peels are chemically engineered to make them more effective, standardized, and accessible to the masses.

Glycolic acid peels combat common skin issues such as adult acne (non-oily skin), clogged pores and blackheads, slowing skin metabolism, and dull or uneven complexions. They can be applied in low level strengths as often as every 7-10 days or higher strengths every 2-4 weeks, making this peel very adaptable to one’s lifestyle with very little downtime.

GLYCOLIC PEELING PROCESS

With the use of this peeling solution, your skin may feel tight or dry for a few days. In some cases, the skin will begin to lightly flake. Your skin should begin to balance out after a full week.

SKIN TYPE / TONE

Glycolic Acid is generally safe for most skin types particularly:

  • Normal to dry
  • Sun damaged
  • Sensitive
  • Dull
  • Uneven
  • Dehydrated

Sensitive skin should progress product potency over time.

BENEFITS

  • Improves dry skin
  • Lightens age and dark spots
  • Lessens fine lines
  • Rejuvenates

MAINTENANCE

Maintain long-term results of a Glycolic Peel with a regular Dermabrasion treatment. (recommended every 4-6 weeks)

SALICYLIC PEEL

  • Helps control sebum production
  • Targets fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improves congested skin
  • Minimizes appearance of acne scarring
S PEEL

Salicylic Acid is a Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) with capacity for deep pore penetration that makes it an excellent choice for those prone to mild and moderate acne vulgaris. Dead skin and debris can plug the delicate pore resulting in blackheads, whiteheads, and acne eruptions. Salicylic Acid’s winning combination of antiseptic and exfoliating properties promotes a clear, healthy complexion!

A Salicylic Acid Peel will begin to purge clogged pores even after the first peel. As a result, acne breakouts may temporarily heighten. Nevertheless, the pore purification process should ultimately improve acne conditions and provide a clear path to beautiful skin! Salicylic Acid peels also provide marked improvements in skin tone, texture, and clarity.

SALICYLIC PEELING PROCESS

With the use of this peeling solution, your skin may become red and take on a frosting appearance during application. In some cases, the skin will have a temporary numbing effect. Breakouts may also occur after peeling. This reaction is normal and the breakout is due to the pores cleansing and bringing debris to the surface. Your skin should begin to balance out within a few weeks, leading to clearer and less oily skin.

BEFORE AND AFTER

A chemical peel can be combined with Dermabrasion to help achieve the desired results. Chemical peels are applied to the skin so that there will be a “blistering” effect and the skin will peel off. When coupled together with a chemical peel, the effects of peel are enhanced. Microdermabrasion will take care of the topmost layer of your skin, and the chemical peel will further permeate your skin.

The effects of both will not only get rid of skin imperfections, but also soften deep wrinkles, and get rid of acne scarring.

Microdermabrasion is immeasurably beneficial to maximize the effects of further treatments. The deep exfoliation permits deeper penetration of products and maximizes the benefits from the next treatment.

(Please note, During the client consultation, we carefully determine the sensitivity of client’s skin before combining microdermabrasion. At Sheen Day Spa, we know how important it is to provide the client consultation on skin condition, as this is your guide to suitable aftercare products and possible complementary treatments.)
